Any differences: no horns, caucasian, dirty-blond hair, braces
Preincarnated History: Let's start at the beginning.
Once upon a time, there was a planet called Alternia. The dominant species on the planet were called trolls, and they looked remarkably like grey humans with black hair and horns. In fact that's exactly what they looked like! And they were a bit of a violent species too; bloody wars and conquests of the galaxy were commonplace.
Well now we get to Sollux Captor. He actually wasn't born in the normal way (i.e. being hatched from an egg laid by the Mother Grub), but was created in a video game... that he would later play with his friends. Time paradoxes are fun! But he basically had a normal life, as normal as it could be as a yellow-blooded psionic at least. Which means that he was constantly plagued by the screams of the imminently deceased and had constant migraines and moodswings up the wazoo but hey that's normal for trolls okay. Sometimes at least. He spent most of his time doing computer shit (mostly hacking and writing viruses, both things he is awesome at), and sometimes talking to other trolls online. He had a few good friends and things were as normal as they ever were on Alternia.
Eventually though, some of his friends/acquaintances had a big falling out because trolls are weird and it set up a weirdass revenge cycle of them all getting each other back. Which would have been okay except that Sollux himself got dragged into it when one of the others, Vriska, mind controlled him into flying to his friend/girlfriend/something Aradia's house and killing her. Oops. After that he helped another friend, Terezi, to get revenge on Vriska by hacking some shit and Terezi ended up blowing up Vriska's eye and arm and basically it was a huge mess. Seriously. But what matters is, Aradia died. But everyone thought she was alive because she actually was a ghost. So Sollux seems to have remained unaware he killed her, which is a very good thing!
Now fast forward a bit. Aradia and Sollux together made a game, a game that the future of their world depended on, according to their psychic visions. But while Sollux believed that playing the game (Sgrub) would save their world, in fact it was the opposite- something that Aradia knew all along. But by their world being destroyed, they would thus be able to survive. It's complicated! Also on the psychic visions front, Sollux predicted that, along the way, all of the trolls would die, except for himself- he would actually die twice, and before he died he would go blind. Because all young trolls want to know that they are going to be disabled and blind right?
Well anyway, basically there were twelve trolls who were all friends and those twelve were the players in the game. There was a big mess getting everyone in to the game in the first place (the game actually transports players to another dimension while their world is destroyed). Sollux almost didn't make it into the game; in fact, he actually died in the process! But luckily, every player gets an extra life in the form of a dream self, and so it was okay that he died because he came right back again with a kiss from one of the others, Feferi.
The game was rather uneventful here and we don't know much of what happened. Sollux hung out with Feferi a lot and the two began some sort of romantic thing. Feferi's ex-moirail was pissed and challenged Sollux to a fight; Sollux won because he is awesome and Eridan sucks. Other than that there was fighting of random enemies, adventuring, all the sorts of stuff you do in RPGs. Only it was real life. Pretty sweet right? But then okay, finally the whole group got to the end of the game and fought the big boss, which then created them a new universe of their own, but right before they got to go there? Some douchebag from another universe showed up and tried to kill them. So they all escaped into a secret base on a meteor. Which basically sucked!
So now there were twelve trolls (well, eleven trolls and one troll robot) stuck in a little lab on a meteor, waiting for their deaths. They basically just messed around, stealing each others shit and making piles of stuff, until they discovered life in the new universe, in the form of four human children. Who happened to be playing the same game they had just played! Well, they found out the douchebag from before who was trying to kill them, actually came from the version of the game the kids were playing, so the other trolls all decided to go and yell at them and basically be terrible, aka they were being internet trolls. Sollux wanted no part in that though and basically stayed completely out of it, other than being the IT guy and fixing computers when there were problems.
After a few hours of that bizarreness, we finally get back to some more of Sollux actually doing things! His friend Aradia from before (the dead-but then a ghost-girl, who is now a robot actually!) talked with him (something she hadn't done during the entire game) to say goodbye, then gave him a hug. And then promptly exploded. Because things can never ever ever go Sollux's way of course, that would be terrible. Well this of course made Sollux have a lot of ~feelings~ so he and Feferi chatted in the horn pile (yes there really is a pile of horns right there to sit on) about feelings until Eridan (the asshole ex from before, remember?) showed up and basically was an idiot. He was going to leave the trolls and go join Jack Noir (i.e., the douchebag from the human kids' universe who was trying to kill them), and betray them in the process. Well Feferi and Sollux weren't having that shit and so Sollux and Eridan fought. This time, Eridan won. He knocked Sollux out, blinding him in the process, and then killed both Feferi and another troll who was there, Kanaya. Because Eridan is a dick is why.
Well then things were pretty tense for a while because in addition to Eridan there were actually two other trolls who were also killing people and it was a big mess. Sollux's BFF Karkat started dragging his unconscious body around to try and keep him out of trouble, but ended up accidentally dropping him down a flight of stairs and knocking out his teeth. Good job bro. So when Sollux woke up he found that he had no teeth and also was blind, which was actually cool because instead of being pissed/depressed about everything, now he was 0k with everything. 0u0 (no wait that looks stupid)
In the end six trolls died (actually seven but Kanaya came back so it's okay), but everything seemed okay- until Jack started closing in. So Sollux decided to save the day; he used his telekinetic abilities to pilot the meteor they were on away from Jack, towards safety, but he did it at the expense of his own safety. Moving the meteor overexerted himself and he unfortunately died for the second time. But it was okay! Because you see, even though his dream selves were dead, he himself was only half dead; because of this his dream bubble self (basically like a ghost stuck in the afterlife, which happens to be in a bubble) was able to leave the bubbles and hang out with Aradia (who was actually okay after blowing up, because it let her come back to life for real). So everyone else who was alive got to keep going, towards the new universe (this is universe #3 for those keeping score), and Sollux and Aradia stayed behind with the bubbles to help all the ghosts do ghost things. And have adventures.
And then basically more dream bubble shit happened and the dead part of Sollux ended up combined in a sprite with Eridan (which was weird), which made Sollux just end up completely alive instead of half alive, but also completely blind again (and more back to his normal personality as opposed to being 0k with everything).
And then he went and flew off with dead dream bubble Nepeta and Feferi to do... Something.
And that’s it.
Reincarnated History: Soren Castor’s life started off pretty normally. Happily married parents, generic suburban neighborhood, all the usual middle-class things. When he was three, his parents had a baby, a little girl named Annika. They did normal family things, he did normal boy things (more video-game-type boy things than running-around-type boy things but still), the whole drill.
When he was about five his mom left. Because you see she had bipolar disorder (something he would also be diagnosed with later but hold that thought). And bipolar disorder sometimes makes people do things that aren’t such a good idea because at the time they think they are. So she left and Soren and Annika’s dad was forced to basically take care of the two on his own. Which he managed! Because he wasn’t incapable or anything, but when you go from a two-parent household to a one-parent household it’s still a challenge. Especially if it’s because your wife who you still love is having problems that you want to help with but she refuses because the very thing causing the problems isn’t letting her see that there are problems (basically mental illness is hard). From that point on their mom sometimes poked into and out of their life for bits at a time, and their dad tried to help her and reconcile but it unfortunately never worked out and he eventually filed for divorce.
Well things after that went as normally as could be expected. Single dad life wasn’t so bad on the kids although there were of course some moments of ‘where’s mom’ or ‘does mom hate us’. But things went on fairly normally. When Soren started school he also started speech therapy for his (previously unmentioned) lisp that he hadn’t outgrown. It took a while but it did mostly go away. Otherwise school was rather uneventful; he was pretty smart so he did well, generally getting good grades. Nothing too important here. Outside of school he played a lot of video games and did computer stuff (the kids’ dad being into computers himself gave the kids a lot of access and interest there), had a few friends who also did those things, and generally had a pretty good/normal childhood. Other than the no mom thing.
When Soren started middle school he started having issues with. Well with a lot of things! Lots of sleep problems, lashing out where he didn’t previously, serious depression stuff at times, the whole shebang. Luckily with the family history of bipolar disorder it didn’t take as long as it could have to get diagnosed; he’s been treated for the disorder for a couple years now and it seems to be under control. Fingers crossed.
Also this doesn’t quite fit in anywhere else but he’s been in braces for a couple years now for a serious overbite. Poor kid. They even brought back his lisp. :(
He just recently finished middle school and will be going into high school in the fall.
First Echo: Since Soren’s dad (like many parents) decided his kids needed to keep doing ~educational~ things during the summer, but also knew his kids pretty damn well, he took some time to help Soren learn how to do some basic computer programming and basically walked him through making a pretty simple game. It was dumb but the act of actually making a game for the first time parallelled when Sollux programmed Sgrub in canon.
As for what he received? A book on programming in the ~ATH language (like this one Karkat has (I’m assuming Sollux had one too, even if he probably hadn’t used it in sweeps)). Very useful (not).
Preincarnation Personality: In every aspect of Sollux's life, his penchant for BIFURCATION is very clear. It not only has a clear effect on his abilities, interests, and history, but on his personality as well. He is said to be BIPOLAR, although the extreme MOODSWINGS make it seem almost as if he has two entirely separate personalities at times. He generally seems to exist somewhere in between the two extreme ends, but it's not at all unusual for him to have fits of overblown anger that lead directly into his more self-loathing side, or vice versa.
When not affected by one of his moodswings, Sollux actually seems to be pretty laid back, especially for a troll. He laughs off even the vilest jabs at himself, and tends to just be a really cool and collected guy. Of course, his moodswings are completely random- although he might be calm and laughing at Karkat's childishness one second, the next he's flipping off the handle and arguing back just as vehemently --
-- only to then apologize for flying off the handle in the first place, with some sort of witty metaphor for how he flew off the handle. Which leads us to the other half of his personality, the self-loathing half. Sollux seems rather convinced at times that he's pathetic, and it's really no secret that he hates himself. Even though he's the best around at computers, he still thinks he isn't any good at all- he actually writes computer programs (mostly viruses) and sends them to Karkat just to get some sort of validation of his abilities. He can be incredibly pessimistic, although some of this is due to his constantly hearing and seeing visions of death and impending doom. When relating one of his visions to a friend, he's even explicitly asked if, maybe, he's interpreting the visions wrong due to how he feels about himself. While he denies this, claiming that what he saw is the truth, it still goes to show just how bad his self hatred can get at times.
Sollux isn’t really the most outgoing of trolls and he can be such an asshole and/or so self-deprecating that it’s a wonder anyone talks to him. But he actually is capable of things like, you know. Friendship. In fact he has romantic success too. For some reason trolls like him even though he’s difficult to put up with, what with the mood swings and all. Basically he is somehow capable of friendships and the like despite being not that great a conversationalist due to constant moodswings and getting down on himself. Actually that goes for everything, the moodswings and getting down on himself are like a big distraction to everything else but somehow he manages to be okay to be around anyway.
Any differences: Well he isn’t a troll so that will be a thing! Even though Sollux isn’t particularly violent or anything he still had some of the troll-like tendencies, and Soren will of course be lacking in those. Also actually being medicated for bipolar disorder will affect things!
Online, Soren is a pretty obnoxious guy. He very much fits into the hardcore gamer category, including the personality stereotypically associated with it; abrasive and harsh, no problems with taunting people and basically being an overall asshole. He spends pretty much all his freetime any more just playing online games or dicking around on imageboards. Computer stuff is great, alright? He might only be fourteen but he still is pretty sure he's going into some sort of computer or video game career. He actually is interested in computers in more ways than just playing video games, although at his age he hasn't really had a lot of time to learn any amazing hacking skills or anything.
Offline he can be quite a bit different. Soren's a bit of an introvert, and can be pretty awkward with people he doesn't know. He generally keeps to himself at school or unfamiliar situations and flies under the radar. He doesn't quite fit in but doesn't stand out either, so at school he's never really dealt with bullying or anything as he's rather unobtrusive. He's a bit of a geek though, if it wasn't obvious from his interest in computers, and is pretty smart too; so there's a lot of times when computers aren't available for some reason where he'll just read or whatever.
But with people he knows well, he's not so awkward. Or rather he still can be and might say stupid things he regrets, but he's still more open and whatnot. He's not really a quiet kid or anything and actually can still be rather loud and obnoxious with his friends or family. He's not mean or anything but can be pretty sarcastic and teasing with the people he cares about. He's pretty close with his dad and sister too, especially his sister as there were a lot of times that their dad has had to work or whatever and they've had to look out for each other. Any more they don't really have too much in common (although they'll still play games together sometimes) but he still loves Annika to death and would try to protect her and care for her no matter what. Soren’s pretty close to their dad too. When their dad isn’t working and Soren isn’t doing his own thing they sometimes game together too and, although he might not confide everything to his dad (because what teenager does?) they are still pretty close. He’s not too close with his mom though; when he was younger Soren blamed himself for his mom leaving, in that way little kids sometimes do, but as he’s gotten older he’s started to just not even care. The most recent time she came around he just didn’t even want to see her. He doesn’t resent her or anything but she’s pretty much a non fixture in his life and he doesn’t care.
Without his meds, of course, lots of this would change. He can still be normal but his bipolar disorder could cause some serious moodswings (not like Sollux has but in the normal person way: periods of extreme highs or lows in behavior that seriously affect life). No one outside of Soren's family and teacher's knows about his disorder though because he is kinda self conscious about it (going along with the introverted and awkward thing). Even his friends don't know because even though they're pretty close he still tries to keep it secret, because teenagers. That's the whole reason basically.
So basically he’s a sometimes awkward, other times sarcastic and annoying teenager who basically lives online in his free time and should never stop taking his medication. The end.
Abilities:
Sollux's main abilities are his computer skills and his psychic abilities. His computer skills are the best around, and he knows ALL THE CODES. All of them. He has a very large, powerful computer setup, which is actually run using BEEHIVE MAINFRAMES. What this means is that he basically has a whole bunch of beehives in his room and the bees somehow magically run his computer and whatnot. And can communicate in binary. Also, they make mind honey for Sollux to feed to his Lusus so it isn't a complete idiot all of the time. But that's getting away from the main point, which is that Sollux is apeshit bananas at computers. All of his friends actually seem to have some amount of respect for his programming and hacking abilities, and he's capable of writing incredibly dangerous computer viruses (such as the MOBIUS DOUBLE REACHAROUND VIRUS which cursed all of the trolls and killed their lusii.) He mostly seems to write these to show off, although he is definitely capable of a lot of destruction if he wanted to be.
Sollux is a high level psionic, and has very strong powers of telekinesis. He can fly, presumably using telekinesis, and he fights using his powers to throw shit around and also shoot eye lasers at people! Because of this, he does not use a strife specibus (basically a gaming construct that functions as a weapon ability & inventory slot) like everyone else. Sollux also is hounded by the psychic screams of the IMMINENTLY DECEASED, and his VISION TWOFOLD gives him visions of the future. His most recent visions show that they must play the game of Sgrub to save their world, although it will also lead to him being blinded and every one of them dying. His psychic abilities also lead to him being somewhat resistant to mind control, only being affected about half of the time. His psychic abilities also give him the ability to put people to sleep just by snapping.
Also Sollux is really good at getting down on himself. I think it counts as an ability.
Roleplay Sample – Third Person:
Really, it shouldn't have been that surprising. The universe pretty much lived to make his life horrible, as if his misery was some sort of delicacy and the universe was some hedonistic creep that would do anything possible to get more of it. Or something like that, Sollux wasn't really sure at the moment.
What he was sure of, though, was the fact that his former girlfriend- how red they were was anyone's guess, all he knew was they were close and there was definitely something going on there - had just exploded right in front of him. In front of him, not the sweaty, musclebeast obsessed douchebag. Which actually felt kind of like a victory, as much as anything could feel like a victory when you see the girl you loved die in front of you for the second time and can't do anything about it. Which isn't actually very much, but the point still stood that at least it was him she came to and not the blue-blooded asshole. Actually that wasn't at all relevant, what the fuck was he thinking? Aradia was dead and her cryptic BS right before she blew up wasn't making him feel any better. This had to be his fault somehow, everything else pretty much was because that's how everything worked, but that still didn't change the fact that he'd never see her again.
But a hand on his shoulder got him out of that slump (at least, the complete brooding part of it, his moodswings would probably leave him hating himself and feeling depressed for hours), and he turned just slightly to see Feferi there, smiling as usual. "Cheer up, grumpy gills! I know she was important to you, but we all have a lot of important things to do still!"
"You know, your optimism still amazes me sometimes, FF." How the princess could still be so cheerful in a time like this was anyone's guess, but being with her, no matter how little he felt he deserved it, still helped to keep him sane and a bit hopeful. Or maybe not hopeful actually, he'd heard enough about hope from that purple-blooded idiot that wouldn't leave him alone since he got together with Feferi, but at least he felt that things actually might get better when he was around her.
"I know it does, goofball! But you know, there's no reason to just wade around when things get rough. You have to go with the flow and just try to stay afloat!"
"Did you not just see AA blow up right in front of me FF? This is a little more than things getting a bit rough, okay? That's the second time she's died right in front of me and I just..." Can't do anything about it. Feel hopeless. Am sick of the universe fucking me over. Any of those would have fit, actually, but there just wasn't any point in finishing the sentence. So instead he just turned away from the sea-dweller and went back to his computer. At least that way maybe he could keep his mind off of things until their inevitable doom.
Not that Feferi was going to have any of that, no way. She followed him right back to his computer, tugging on his arm to pull him up. "No way, mister! I am not letting you sit around and mope, things are going to get better and I know it! Does someone need to talk about his feelings with me?"
Oh god, talking about feelings. Why FF thought he always wanted to just sit around and talk about them he had no idea, and really it was kind of embarrassing and frustrating, but no matter what he did it was probably useless to even try to resist. Not that he would just go along quietly, of course. "Wow, yeah, FF, glubbing about my feelings about Aradia dying again sounds just great. Do you want to invite everyone else too, maybe Karkat wants to come and talk about his insecurities or Eridan wants to come be a raging moron at us again."
But of course, even as he complained Sollux followed his matesprit to the horn pile (of course it was the horn pile, piles were apparently great places for sleeping, talking about feelings, just sitting, whatever anyone wanted to do on a stupid pile of things). Maybe FF was right, and things really would get better?
It's not like things could really get any worse.
Roleplay Sample - Network: (here’s a link to a previous sample to show i can actually do network posts, because this sample is a little short i think. i can probably write a longer one if i need to also! just let me know.)
haha lmao this is so weird.
random numbers gets a random message board?
i dont even know why anyone would come here, whats the point??
to make posts about “oh i found a random message board?”
like no SHIT you found a random ass message board we all found it too or we wouldnt be reading your post about a random message board ooh were all amazed at your ability to type numbers!
lmfao you guys are all so stupid idk why anyone even is here or why im wasting my time with this place in fact im just going to leave now and not come back because even all those idiots on tumblr are smarter than you guys.
ok no seriously whats the point of this place even?? like really.
Any Questions? nope, I think I’m good!
