Soren Castor grew up a pretty normal and happy child. He had a mom and a dad and a little sister named Annika, and everything was pretty good. But when Soren was five his mom decided that instead of having a family she would rather have a super exciting life elsewhere, doing something extravagant like being on Broadway or being a fashion designer or living with lions in Africa. Because you see, Soren's mother unfortunately had bipolar disorder which she refused medication for. Soren's father loved his wife a lot, more than anything, and so he tried to get her the help she needed, but it was obvious it wasn't working out. He still tried to help her and tried to let his kids have a relationship with her, but she was in and out of their lives a lot while Soren was growing up, until he was about eight or nine. After that she didn't come around much any more, which none of them were maybe happy with but it wasn't a big deal. They were happy anyway, and everything was as normal as it could be.

It stayed that way for a while, until Soren entered middle school. At that point he ended up depressed, which lead into an attempt at medication, which lead into a dangerous mixed episode, landing him in the hospital - and with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder himself. Soren wasn't very happy about any of this, as is to be expected from a twelve year old, but his Dad helped him get the help he needed and he's mostly okay with it now. It did sour the relationship with his mother, though, as he's taken to blaming her for the disorder and the effects it's had on his life.

Everything after that was as normal as can be expected. Soren made it through middle school okay, their little family was just fine, but in the middle of summer before he entered high school, things got a bit crazy.

You see, it ended up that the Earth was in danger, and there were some people who were supposed to help save it. They were actually reincarnations of others from other places - not that they knew that, of course. What they did know was that they would get what they came to call "echoes" or "pulses" - remnants of their past lives - and that they were being hunted out by some group who wanted them stopped. What these pulses were changed from person to person, and could be just about anything - a memory, a physical change, an item, or even powers.

Soren began getting pulses from another life - a life on an alien planet, with psychic powers, and memories of others who were also "numbered" (as the group began to call themselves, based on the fact that they all had a series of numbers in their head when they gained their first pulse). Soren at first tried to stay out of it, not really interested in putting himself in danger or interacting with any of the people in the group, but eventually he ended up with some rather obvious physical echoes that made staying out of it impossible.

The city faced a lot of threats - living statues that attacked people, bombs and earthquakes, corrupt police arresting numbered for no reason, and finally even bigger statues that destroyed large amounts of the city. Soren was around through it all, and although it was difficult for him, he managed to make it through everything mostly okay. He even made some friends through it - he had his first girlfriend, a girl named Aria, who was also numbered and shared memories with him of their past lives where they were also close friends. Soren also made friends with a man named Davin, who's physical echoes and powers matched his own - something that was otherwise unheard of. The two became rather close, and considered each other brothers.

Somewhere along the way, Soren's younger sister Annika also became numbered and became involved in everything. Soren wasn't happy with this, as it put her in danger, but to his (unspoken) relief, Annika never regained any powers, and so she was able to stay safe.

Soren eventually regained enough physical changes that he decided it wasn't safe any more to keep going to school, and so he convinced his Dad to let him be homeschooled. He would spend his days at Davin's house, studying and doing schoolwork (and of course playing video games), and although his father wasn't really happy with the arrangement, he understood and allowed it.

And so Soren attempted to keep having a regular life, but as expected it was a challenge. This was only made harder when the previously mentioned giant statue attack happened. Although Soren was only slightly injured in the battle, Aria unfortunately was killed. She was lucky to gain a pulse that allowed her to stick around in the form of a ghost, but between all of the stress of the battle and now not being able to see his girlfriend any more, Soren was not doing too well emotionally. He eventually recovered, after some medicine challenges and emotional roller coasters, but it was hard for him to be as casual and happy after everything that had happened.

Soren still participated in trying to figure things out and trying to fight statues and aliens and everything else that was thrown at them, but he now had finally started to realize the danger of it all, and it was harder for him to participate. It also became more dangerous for the numbered in Locke City - although after the giant statue the normal people were now aware of them, this also made it harder for them to go about their lives. Soren's father decided it would be safer for his family to move to Las Vegas, which was another city that recently began experiencing the same things as Locke had, and although Soren still participated in things in Locke (due to a handy teleporter that connected the two cities), his distance made it hard for him to keep too involved.

(Here is a list of the echoes that Soren has received, in case knowing which of Sollux's memories he has is important. As far as physical echoes go, he looks almost identical to Sollux now, with the exception of still having dark blonde hair and human teeth.)

Personality:

Online, Soren is a pretty obnoxious guy. He very much fits into the hardcore gamer category, including the personality stereotypically associated with it; abrasive and harsh, no problems with taunting people and basically being an overall asshole. He spends pretty much all his freetime any more just playing online games or dicking around on imageboards. Computer stuff is great, alright? He might only be fifteen but he still is pretty sure he's going into some sort of computer or video game career. He actually is interested in computers in more ways than just playing video games, although at his age he hasn't really had a lot of time to learn any amazing hacking skills or anything.

Offline he can be quite a bit different. Soren's a bit of an introvert, and can be pretty awkward with people he doesn't know. He generally keeps to himself at school or unfamiliar situations and flies under the radar. He doesn't quite fit in but doesn't stand out either, so at school he's never really dealt with bullying or anything as he's rather unobtrusive. He's a bit of a geek though, if it wasn't obvious from his interest in computers, and is pretty smart too; so there's a lot of times when computers aren't available for some reason where he'll just read or whatever.

But with people he knows well, he's not so awkward. Or rather he still can be and might say stupid things he regrets, but he's still more open and whatnot. He's not really a quiet kid or anything and actually can still be rather loud and obnoxious with his friends or family. He's not mean or anything but can be pretty sarcastic and teasing with the people he cares about. He's pretty close with his dad and sister too, especially his sister as there were a lot of times that their dad has had to work or whatever and they've had to look out for each other. Any more they don't really have too much in common (although they'll still play games together sometimes) but he still loves Annika to death and would try to protect her and care for her no matter what. Soren’s pretty close to their dad too. When their dad isn’t working and Soren isn’t doing his own thing they sometimes game together too and, although he might not confide everything to his dad (because what teenager does?) they are still pretty close. He’s not too close with his mom though; when he was younger Soren blamed himself for his mom leaving, in that way little kids sometimes do, but as he’s gotten older he’s started to just not even care. The most recent time she came around he just didn’t even want to see her. He doesn’t resent her or anything but she’s pretty much a non fixture in his life and he doesn’t care.

Without his meds, of course, lots of this would change. He can still be normal but his bipolar disorder could cause some serious moodswings (not like Sollux has but in the normal person way: periods of extreme highs or lows in behavior that seriously affect life). No one outside of Soren's family and teacher's knows about his disorder though because he is kinda self conscious about it (going along with the introverted and awkward thing). Even his friends don't know because even though they're pretty close he still tries to keep it secret, because teenagers. That's the whole reason basically.

So basically he’s a sometimes awkward, other times sarcastic and annoying teenager who basically lives online in his free time and should never stop taking his medication. The end.

Wish:

"I wish this Numbered stuff never happened."

It isn't often that Soren thinks about it, but as time has gone on it's a thought that's lingered in the back of his mind more and more. Everything is different now - the world is in danger, his family has been uprooted, his friends and family are at constant risk of being hurt or killed. He enjoys his powers and the people he's met through the network, but sometimes, especially when something bad happens, he can't help but think about what if none of this started at all.

And so Soren would have no problem wishing none of it ever happened, in order to save his friends and family from danger. None of them would be any the wiser, they simply wouldn't have gotten powers and strange memories and everything would be normal.

Except of course without Numbered things happening, that would mean that the aliens would have nothing stopping them from taking over/destroying the Earth. Whoops. Good job Soren.

Passive ability:
Power dampening
With this power, Soren would be able to weaken the powers of people. To go with Sollux's connection to the number two, let's say he can only affect people within 20 feet of him. And let's also say he about halves their power. If this is too powerful for a passive ability let me know!

This power is a good fit for him as removing powers is a very obvious ramification of his wish, as no one would have powers if they were never reincarnated in the first place.

Active ability:
Amnesia Inducing
With this power, Soren would be able to make people forget about things that happened. Of course he couldn't make them forget too much - let's say, again going with the thematic twos, that he can only do about two minutes or so worth of memory. Not enough to be too helpful generally, but you never know.

This power works because of obvious making things not happen, and because it ties in with the Numbered forgetting things that occurred, no matter how little sense it makes. And Soren's wish being somewhat passive means that some sort of fighting ability is out - but something mirroring his effect on everyone, making it as if things never happened, fits well with making people think things never happened.

Weapon:
As Soren plays shooter games all the time (what else would a teenage boy play online?), it would be fitting for him to have some sort of rifle as his weapon. Of course that doesn't mean he'll know what to do with one in real life... Or be willing to actually shoot anything with one. Oh well!
